The Escape

Brief

Illustration

A fast-paced illustration project for improving visual communication skills. The goal is to create a five-panel sequence illustrating a conceptual “escape”. The narrative can describe a physical escape, psychological escape, emotional escape, or some other form of choice. Preliminary drawings and group critiques are used to refine the concept before producing the final work. The medium is pencil on paper.

The story chronicles the perilous escape of a fly from a house. The action of each scene is intensified by extreme diagonals and disorienting perspectives. The sequence tracks the insect’s dizzying flight on the small scale, where ordinary objects like coffee mugs and ceiling fans become massive and dangerous.
